On January 22nd, 2024, Dr. Karin Markides, President of Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University (OIST) , Prof. Amy Shen, Provost of OIST, and their colleagues paid a visit to ToMMo.
Tohoku University and OIST signed a memorandum of understanding for comprehensive coordination and cooperation between the two universities on the same day, with the aim of development through the exchange of their knowledge and experience.

Following an introduction of ToMMo, they took a tour of the facilities such as supercomputer system, cryo-electron microscopy, biobank, Sendai Community Support Center, Sendai Child Health Square, and omics analysis facilities.
ToMMo is collaborating with Dr. Svante Paabo of OIST, who is also the director of the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology, and set up a remote security area at OIST. We exchanged views on further strengthening cooperation in the future.
