Change of the data access control of 3.5KJPNv2, allele frequency data in Japanese genome reference panel, to open category

    Research: 2019/01/25

Tohoku Medical Megabank Organization (ToMMo) has performed whole genome sequence analyses of DNA samples mainly taken from the participants of our cohort studies, and constructed the Japanese Genome Reference Panel. The first version was constructed for 1,070 individuals, and it was gradually extended by increasing the number of samples.
Since genotype data of each individual should not be distributed to protect the privacy of the participants, we have distributed the data as the observed frequencies of alleles in the panel. In addition, we require Data Transfer Agreement for full access of the data.
ToMMo has made effort to extend the availability of the data in addition to increase the number of samples of the panel. The latest version, 3.5KJPNv2, involves 3,552 whole genome sequence data, some of which were taken from other regions as collaborations with other cohorts. These expansions lead us to conclude that it became virtually impossible to identify any individuals, and determined to change the access control of the panel into open category to promote the realization of personalized medication in Japan.
