Group of Biobank

A biobank is a type of biorepository that collects and stores biospecimens and associated data, and provides them for use in research projects. Group of Biobank, as one of the groups of Tohoku Medical Megabank Organization, is in charge of the development and management of the biobank facilities. It stores and provides the biological specimens (blood, urine, saliva, and breast milk) collected from participants of the cohort studies of the Tohoku Medical Megabank Project with the corresponding data of the cohort studies, various tests and gene/omics/metagenomic analysis. These operations are carried out in collaboration with the Group of Privacy Controls, Group of Integrated Database Systems and Group of Materials and Information Management. In addition, it also plays the role of a biobank as a backup that stores biospecimens from other institutions post anonymization processing. We work to ensure the quality of bank specimens and the security of the information under ISO9001 and ISO27001 certification.
