Nine members of a government delegation from the Kingdom of Bhutan visited ToMMo

    News: 2023/05/29

On the 12th May, 2023, a nine-member delegation from the Kingdom of Bhutan, including Wangchuk Pemba (Acting Secretary, Ministry of Health), and Tenzing Jigme (Acting Secretary, GovTech Agency) visited ToMMo.

Following an explanation of the overview of the project by Executive Director Yamamoto, they were taken on a tour of the Supercomputer System, Biobank, genome sequencing facilities, the Sendai Community Support Center and the Sendai Child Health Square. Afterwards, information on the establishment of a biobank in the Kingdom of Bhutan was exchanged and the possibility of future cooperation was discussed.

During the discussions, the delegation from the Kingdom of Bhutan said, “We would like to conduct comprehensive data collection by taking advantage of Bhutan's unique characteristics. We would like to develop a domestic data system and digital environment. By integrating the use of such a system and genome data, we would like to be able to provide advice on disease prevention to the people of Bhutan.” He also added, “The biobank and the use of genome data (as explained during the tour) are very interesting. We will also consider sending Bhutanese researchers to ToMMo for practical education and training.”
