On August 22nd, 2019, Dr. Ewan Birney, Director of EMBL-EBI and GA4GH Executive Committee Chair paid a visit to ToMMo. Following an introduction of ToMMo by Executive Director Yamamoto, he took a tour of Supercomputer system, Sendai Community Support Center, array facility, and biobank.

After the tour, he gave a lecture ”Big data in healthcare and biology” at ToMMo. He said genome medicine has been shifting from research to healthcare and how we can fill in the gap between these. Lastly, he also mentions the importance of standardization.
