Group of Epigenome

The Group of Epigenomics focuses on uncovering the complex interplay between genetic backgrounds, environmental factors, and lifestyle habits through the comprehensive analysis of epigenetic modifications, such as DNA methylation. Utilizing the extensive biological specimens collected from the Tohoku Medical Megabank Project cohorts—including the TMM CommCohort Study and the TMM BirThree Cohort Study—our group aims to establish large-scale, high-quality Japanese epigenomic reference panels.
By integrating these epigenetic data with other multi-omics and health record datasets, we strive to elucidate the mechanisms underlying disease onset and developmental processes across different life stages. Our mission is to provide these crucial datasets to the global research community, ultimately contributing to the realization of personalized healthcare and the advancement of preventive medicine.
