A seminar by Prof. Harold Snieder and Mr. Bart Scheerder, Lifelines, was held

    News: 2017/08/22

On August 22, 2017, Professor Harold Snieder (Professor of Genetic Epidemiology, University Medical Center Groningen) and Mr. Bart Scheerder (Senior Consultant Biobanking and Manager, the Biobank Knowledge and Expertise center(BiKE)/Lifelines) came to ToMMo, and had a seminar "Biobank and Molecular Epidemiology: Three-Generation Cohort and Big Data Analysis for research into Precision Medicine". They are members of  Lifelines and Lifelines NEXT. Lifelines is a three-generation cohort study which follows 167,000 participants recruited in the northern part of the Netherlands. Lifelines NEXT is the "Nested" study based on Lifelines and recruit 1,500 pregnant Lifelines participants to study the determinants for healthy development in early life.

Before the seminar, they took a tour of the facilities such as supercomputer system, biobank, sequencing facility, Sendai Community Support Center, Sendai Child Health Square, and Iwanuma Community Support Center.

We hope we will do some international collaboration with them near the future.
