"8 rules to prevent communicable disease" / "8 Tips for Mental Health Promotion after Disaster" available in Nepali

    News: 2015/06/08

To provide initial support for preventing health problems after the Nepal earthquake on 25 April, Prof. Hiroaki Tomita, (leader of the Group of Mental Health Promotion, ToMMo, and Professor of the department of Psychiatry, Internal Research Institute of Disaster Psychiatry; IRIDeS), Prof. Mitsuo Kaku (Professor of the department of Infection Control and Laboratory Diagnostics, Tohoku University School of Medicine), and their colleagues have prepared a Nepali version of messages containing fundamental guidelines entitled "8 Tips for Mental Health Promotion after Disaster" and "8 rules to prevent communicable disease".

These messages have been distributed to the affected communities in Nepal through JICA, an early dispatching team from IRIDeS, and Dr. Yoshiaki Yamamoto (ToMMo Clinical Fellow).

Translation into Nepali was made by Mr. Sujit Maharjan, a student at Tribhuwan University, Nepal, and his brother, Mr. Sumit Maharjan, an international student at Tohoku University.

Thus, these efforts were made possible through cooperation among Tohoku University School of Medicine, Tohoku University Hospital, IRIDeS and ToMMo.

We would like to share lessons learned from the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011 with Nepali people. We hope that the messages would be of some help for the victims, and people who are involved in rescue and assistance of the victims, and recovery and reconstruction of the communities in Nepal.
