The Tohoku University Tohoku Medical Megabank Organization (ToMMo) conducted a questionnaire survey as a part of our "ToMMo Child Health Study" beginning Friday, June 7, 2013 in southern Miyagi Prefecture. The "Children's Health Questionnaire" was distributed to 12,742 students in the second, fourth, and sixth grades of primary school and to second year junior high school students. Of the distributed questionnaires, 4,068 were completed and returned by parents or guardians. According to this study, 378 children had symptoms of bronchial asthma and 866 children had symptoms of atopic dermatitis. Among children who were not receiving any treatment or diagnosis, despite having strong symptoms, 27 had bronchial asthma and 37 had atopic dermatitis. Furthermore, A Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ), which was conducted to study the psychological health of children, shows that 606 children experience some form of difficulty in daily life and are deemed to require assistance. Municipalities were notified of the aggregate findings from the questionnaire survey for the purpose of improving their health administration.
