Group of Biobank

The Group of Biobank, as one of the groups of Tohoku "Medical Mega Bank, (ToMMo)" is in charge of the development and management of the bio (life, living organisms-related) bank facilities.

It stores the biological specimens (blood, urine) collected from participants in the health studies of the Tohoku Medical Megabank Project in a way that is compatible with the data of health studies, various tests, and gene analysis and other uses. The biological specimens and information are processed (e.g., anonymization) so as not to contain personally identifiable information. Furthermore, only researchers who have passed our rigorous screening and entered into a contract are permitted to use the biological specimens and information in the biobank.

The long-term accumulation of the biological specimens and information in the biobank in a way that fully protects personal information will generate significant merits to both the providers of the biological specimens and of information, as well as researchers. It will contribute to the advancement of medicine and medical care. The Group of Biobank, is in charge of the development and management of this biobank at the center of this endeavor.
